Taekwondo Tenets

Tenets are doctrines or principles. The five tenets of Taekwondo are:

  • Courtesy (Ye Ui)
To be polite, thoughtful and considerate of others.

  • Integrity (Yom Chi)
Taekwondo practitioners should live by a code of moral values and principles, having a humble estimate of oneself and not being boastful or showing off.

  • Perseverance (In Nae)
The ability to keep on trying until you master what you set out to do.

  • Self Control (Geuk Gi)
Being able to train hard without hurting anyone and being able to control anger or aggression.

  • Indomitable Spirit (Baekjul Boolgool)
To be able to keep on going, no matter how tough things get.
